The first novel by Kathryn Stockett, The Help is on the crossing lines - racial, social, emotional - in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1962. It crosses your blood-brain barrier, with its symphony of voices compulsively absorption. One of his three narrators, Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan, an aspiring writer just graduated from "Ole Miss", earning the attention of a publisher abrasive New York with his idea to interview black girls in his hometown for a book on how it is working for white women and raise their children.
Stockett reduce the risks that the company considered that vividly to mind the time and place where whites are being persecuted, "Integration of violation" and blacks are either shot or imprisoned for up to unfounded accusations of impropriety, or theft, beaten and blinded with the use of white only bathrooms, and killed by the KKK in the fact that the "cheeky". The first two women who are brave enough, and FED-Skeeter mark on the project share of fiction.
Aibileen Clark has lovingly collected more than a dozen white children, always in motion, "when children are too old and cease to be a color-blind." Its current leader, Elizabeth Leefolt, is an old friend Skeeter. But he is loving parent, trying to capture something to Aibileen indoctrinating his fat head: "You are a kind of smart you are ... You are important.".
